When the sun sets

and dusk approaches,

across the sky 

that is now a faint tinge of pink and purple

decorated with streaks of clouds

We gather around the table,

as we put our hands together

praise Allah 

close our eyes and say a prayer

whilst the melodic call 

fills our ears with bliss.

The packaged dates 

are then unwrapped,

and passed around

the taste of the fruit,sweet-

exploding in your mouth

like experiencing

the joy of food

for the first time
